As cold and flu season approaches, one of the best ways to support the immune system is keeping inflammation at bay. And one of the best ways I have found to do that is with Angela Liddon’s rooibos tea recipe!

Ginger root and turmeric root are two anti-inflammatory power houses found in nature. Brewing them with rooibos tea, a South African tea traditionally used to treat many ailments, creates a mild, earthy flavor.

Adding a few lemon slices adds an alkalizing property, a dose of vitamin C and a light citrusy note. A drop of honey or your favorite sweetener balances this brew to create an amazing healthful cup of warmness on a winter’s night!

  • 4 cups water
  • 4 tsp loose rooibos tea (or about 4 rooibos tea bags)
  • 1-2 lemon slices
  • 1 -2″ piece turmeric root, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2-3″ piece fresh ginger root, peeled and thinly sliced.
  • sweetener, to taste (optional)

In a medium saucepan, combine the water, tea, lemon, turmeric and ginger. Bring to a boil and then reduce the heat to medium-low to simmer for about 10 minutes.

Pour the tea through a fine-mesh sieve placed over a bowl. Stir in your sweetener if using and then serve immediately. Steeping a Ceylon cinnamon stick for a few minutes will add even more health benefits with powerful antioxidant properties!

Best enjoyed with a purring kitten at your feet!

To Your Health,
